Oh, that's lovely. I like Sorafic and Geniific a great deal and this was quite nice. I especially liked the bits with Ford, who is a sweet kid AND Marine all the way through. McKay was awesome, of course, and the little bit about Sheppard and Sora not being able to sleep when he lurks so silently... mmph! <3!
I wanted to smack the shit out of the Genii, for being stupid and xenophobic and *stupid*, but I like this glimpse into how they don't know jackshit about a real military--they hide and they train and they tell themselves a fairytale about what they can do and they're not soldiers the way American miltary personnel are, that they're cruel not ruthless. The Genii are anger and frustration and lashing out and American soldiers... *aren't*. They're a calmer, harder sort of soldier.
...Or, um, possibly I read too much in! But that is totally what I got out of it. *laughs* Thank you for such good Sora!
See, what's interesting to me about the Genii is that they're kind of a mirror to the way the Earth Stargate program *used* to be. Jack's team, in the first couple of seasons, was just *desperate* for alien technology-- found, begged, borrowed and sometimes stolen-- because of the imminent threat of the Gou'ald. The way Kolya snarks at Elizabeth for being arrogant and thinking only *her* people could possibly be advanced enough to run the city is (to me) nearly exactly the attitude Jack O'Neill used to have with that Tollan high council lady who was such a hardass and wouldn't share weaponry with the oh-so-primitive Earthlings. To me the difference is, basically, that on Earth there were *elements* of the population that were dumb and desperate enough to go aroung stealing alien technology in what you could call terrorist raids, but the Genii's entire military and government, their entire *culture* is like that. (But then again, who knows, maybe if more people on Earth had known about the imminent Gou'ald threat, or if the Gou'ald had

Thanks for your comment! I love ficathons-- I always thought Sora was interesting, but I probably never would have written this story without being nudged. Glad you liked it! :)
:( I like this. Your Sora is complex, and makes a lot of sense; I like her interactions with the Atlanteans, the different ways she deals with them, because it feels very appropriate. And her reaction to Sheppard - the Genii must have a very different idea of him than most of the other people in Pegasus. He was scary in The Storm.
*nods* I'm not sure the last section entirely conveys what I meant-- seriously, when I say "last minute" I'm so not kidding. *G* Like Jamjar says in her comment, Sora specifically says she understands why Sheppard's doing what he's doing... I think she understands because, in a sense, she's like him, and that's scary to her, to think that she could one day be put in the position that *he* was... Well, maybe I'll revise the end bit later.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I do hope that we see more of Sora in the future; her "you killed my father" issues may be resolved, but there's so much more that's interesting about her that I think they could explore.
