Thank you for your suggestions!
I'm not sure how much I want to spend, but I'll probably be able to spare $170/180 for a very cheap flight, and $170/180 for 2/3 nights in a cheap hotel.
I wonder if that would seriously limit my ambitiousness? :D

That should be plenty to work with!
I'm curious to see what you choose.

Bring a camera!

While I'm obviously prejudiced about destination, if you promise to come out East in the summer, I'd recommend that you head to the Southwest in March. It's gorgeous in the desert, and the temperatures will probably be more to your liking. Plus, it's quite a different atmosphere than Pittsburgh ( ... )

Good! So go!! :-)

When I took a closer look at that article, I realized that s/he mentions climbing Camelback Mountain, another practically free activity. (Also an accessible one, in the sense that you don't need ropes or special training, etc.) It sounds like the same trail that I climbed two years ago. I'm not sure if you're into that sort of thing, but it's an excellent workout! (Took me four hours up and back; most of the "regulars" seem to do it in two.) Here are the pictures from that trip. The other man shown, Bob, was with me on a trek to South Mountain (on the other side of town) earlier that week; far less strenuous.

Oh, and besides going to Phoenix just because of this thread, :-) there's actually a logical reason: When more than one airline serves a popular city, prices are driven down to the levels you see. Of course, if it's a very popular city, like Las Vegas, NV, demand keeps the prices higher. Conversely, less popular cities don't have as much of a supply of flights, and thus are also expensive to reach ( ... )
