I'd liken your writing to taking a cool drink on a hot summer day. I've been soothed before but not like this. This is wonderfully written, as were the stories before it. I have no words to tell you how refreshing your writing is, how it lulls me into a world of color and wonder. This isn't something many writers can do and I've read many stories, many books. The emotions have texture; they weave a convincing tale of Cara the woman, Cara the lover, Cara the loyal friend...and Cara the Mord'Sith. Such care resonates in every line and I love how you've made your work such an intricate mesh of light, sound, tastes, aromas and words. The Cara and Dahlia you describe is a glimpse into the lives of lovers flush with the ripeness of love and reveling in its beauty, its sensuality and its encompassing delight. Thank you so very much for writing this and for your eloquence. It's been an absolute, absolute pleasure. Words are not enough. :) Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for such a fantastically generous piece of feedback. I'm turning, like, ten different shades of red right now (normally, I only register three or four). Very happy to know you enjoyed this one. :)
I enjoyed all three! Glad to know I made you register ten shades. I'd have you register twenty if I can help it. Such fantastic writing, I think I was gaping with awe the entire time. You have such apt descriptions for just about every situation, every emotion. It's a skill I'd like to have as a writer; you have it down pat. I think I've learned a hundred different things just reading your fics and that's something I enjoy tremendously.
That said, I was reading your other stuff, too. I'd just like to say that though I'm not acquainted with the fandoms (except BSG), the Cindy/Lindsey ones were a pleasure to read. I hope you don't mind if I add your journal? So I could take a peek at your fic whenever I fancy? As lurkete has mentioned, your stuff is inspiring.
Cool with me - the adding, I mean. I'm happy to hear you liked the WMC stuff, since that's the last fandom I really gave it the 'old college try' for. That series (WMC) wasn't the best thing ever, but the characters were so effin' cute. Seems I can't resist that set-up. ;)
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful. This, along with the others in the series, is definitely among my favorite LotS fics thus far. Your characters are fascinating and spot-on and your style is delightful. Thanks so much for sharing!
Very cute: “Spend a year of your life trailing after a forest boy who won’t shut-up about the wonders of nature. You’ll learn a few things purely by accident.”
Great lines: "Dahlia approaches with a lute slung across her back and a red-haired boy of ten tucked under her arm. She has one hand clamped over his eyes, but the boy can plainly see through her fingers. He squirms a little and waves to Cara, who scowls at him."
"Their spirits were evidently so well-fitted..." -- you made this true and it's wonderful and beautiful.
I would love a small scene where Kahlan meets Dahlia for the first time at dinner or something. Have you thought of writing an encounter story/scene?
I can't imagine the number of hidden eye rolls a pedantic journey through the woods with Richard Cypher would involve. And I think most ten year old boys would mark their first hot naked lady sighting as particularly auspicious - especially if that woman is beating guys up on the street. ;)
A Kahlan/Richard meet Dahlia scene is on the drawing board. Gotta work out the particulars of how to get Cara into formal wear first. *g*
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading & commenting.
