Don't mock! It says right there in Businessweek that Canada is a maple syrup superpower.

Do NOT make light of the superpower. You want to be stuck with nothing but Mrs. Butterworth's, which is mostly high fructose corn syrup? The strategic maple syrup reserve is very, very important!

I officially love my country. (I feel like this is something that should be straight out of a Due South episode or something... But no, it's reality!)

Funny this would come up today, though - I was craving pancakes for supper tonight but opted against buying pancake mix given that I have yet to find actual maple syrup in France. All I've seen so far is "maple flavour" syrup that is basically nothing but high-fructose corn syrup and artifical flavouring. :(
