The amount of mansplaining going on in the Skyler White thread over on TWOP makes me want to pull my hair out.

While I agree one can dislike a female character for entire non-sexist reasons, and I'm willing to give my fellow fans the benefit of the doubt, excuse me for being really dubious when you claim to be one of those people who hate Skyler ( Read more... )

I'm a dinosaur, I think. I remember the days before people started looking for New And Exciting Ways To Spell Names. And I admit, if a writer's pen name is excessively cute, like "Dedlee Nyteshade," I won't even look at the book.

Heee, yeah. I've basically submerged myself a lot, mostly because of an chronically ill parent both him and my mother face the fact that a nursing home is coming sooner rather than later.

It's been...well, not easy. And my weekend schedule is an utter mess because my brother, who does the bulk of the caregiving needs a break (my dad really can't be left alone).

I will for sure get in touch. It just might take a few weeks. :-)

I'm here and I'd love to see you when you can manage it. I would just say, as someone who ran herself ragged trying to deal with the care of a parent with failing health and dwindling independence, to carve out whatever time for yourself you can snatch (if indeed you can snatch at any). <3

You know, it's funny, I don't even watch Breaking Bad and the whole Skyler thing is pissing me off. :-)

I loooove Breaking Bad, and I've always had sympathy for Skyler from the start. She lost a little sympathy from me during S4 when she decided to throw her lot in with Walt, but right now I just feel really freakin' sorry for her. In a lot of ways, she's got full-on battered wife syndrome going on because of all the mindgames that have been played on her.

Even so, I'm totally team Schrader (her sister and her brother-in-law). I just want the Schraders to get out okay because they're really the darkhorse heroes of the series. That's something I never saw coming, y'know? I just recently re-watched the pilot, and it's absolutely astonishing how my view of Marie and Hank has changed. Outside of Skyler, they've suffered the most because of Walt, unfairly because they didn't know he was Heisenberg, and they'll be paying for it the rest of their lives. Even so, they're willing to do the right thing anyway.
