Since when...

...is knowing half the battle? I do not feel any better for finally knowing why I've been so violently ill whenever I eat for so long. I apparently have a hiatal hernia. Am being referred to a gastroenterologist. Sounds like surgery is in my future. I lose at life ( Read more... )

Most of the people in my family have hiatal hernias... Bear's family has a few too. Surgery is rarely necessary. Drugs work very well. It's not really a big deal unless they're REALLY bad. Is yours horrible? This is really the best diagnosis they could have given you. Be happy... this will be taken care of. :)

Mine is horrible to me, at the very least...I don't know quite where it rates in the horrible-ness scale that actual medico types use! heh ( ... )

They have other Rx drugs that can calm the movements of your stomach so that it doesn't lurch into your asophagus... which I think I spelled wrong.

Yours does seem really bad though. D:
I wish you relief soon.

Oooh...maybe they'll be making with the prescribing of these happinesses during my appt this week or next. I do so hope so.

The prospect of surgery scares me so. See, this is what happens when I go see the doc. The last two times I've actually followed through with seeing a doctor for something bad it's ended up turning into a ruptured eardrum, and a tumor on my ovary requiring surgery while pregnant. I don't like. :)

I had to do a search to find out just what kind of hernia that is... and it doesn't sound too bad; but then again that's easy to say when it's not me. :( Hopefully it's just a minor one and you won't need surgery. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you, regardless.

It doesn't sound too bad until I looked and realized that I've done all the things they say to do before considering medication or surgery, have tried meds, and am in constant pain all the time. Like, different but no better pain than those last few weeks of pregnancy. And singing with good breath support is a NIGHTMARE as it pretty much causes me to throw up...which is never a good thing.

Let's put this in perspective...TEA hurts. I can't drink my freaking TEA ! ! ! ! *cries*

My poor Liz! Is there low acid tea on the market, maybe an herbal blend, that will not aggravate your tummy?

You could make oatmeal, or mashed potatoes, or do some vegetable soup with low sodium broth - or maybe pudding? Do they make vegetarian pudding?

Couscous! Like risotto, I boil mine in cream of chicken soup, then let the creamy goodness soak in and it comes out tasting nice. I call that my baby food when I'm feeling crappy.

I'll send you light and big hugs and I'll thank you to stop calling yourself a loser. You're not. You're wonderful for taking all of this in without panicking.

It's not even the acid anymore, really. Because of the hernia, any quantity of food or drink passing into my stomach causes me pain. It's unbelievably aggravating. I'm going to try eating only spoonfuls at a time and seeing how that goes... I'm craving rice pudding, naturally. :)

I can't take praise for not panicking...I'm panicking something terrible, actually. But, for the record, I'm finally actually doing something about it instead of avoiding seeing a doctor like the frickin' plague. hatehatehate it. a lot. :P

Your list there reminds me of when I passed a kidney stone back in the summer of 2000. It was a list of "do not eat" things and chocolate and tea were on that list as well as salty foods, dairy, red meat, and leafy greens.
What did that leave me with? Wheat toast and water.

... and I lived with my mom at the time and she was just starting to be anti-carb, so eating bread in her house was impossible.
Mmmm... water! Sooooo filling and satisfying! XD
At least I knew I would not be thirsty. lol

Is tea acidic? I was thinking you could at least attempt to make iced tea to get your tea fix, if it's not.
How about tofu? Is that easy to digest? I think there has to be some cold recipes that have tofu in it, so I can research for that, if you'd like.

You are strong, Liz. No matter what the results are, you still got us! *HUGS*
