How do you use LiveJournal?

We appreciate all the feedback you have already given us on both the redesign of the site and the recent discussion about a potential +1 feature. With this post, though, we're wanting to get your input on how you use LiveJournal rather than just asking about a specific feature or page on the site. So, with that said, on with the questions!

Do we need to answer it here in this post or can we send you a message?

You're welcome to send it as a private message to theljstaff if you're not comfortable with your answer being public.

Yeah, I find the re posting of public entries to be weird and I dislike the idea of mine being picked up that way

This is pretty much me, too. I've mostly backed off blogging in general, but I hardly ever come over to LJ lately due to all of the "features" that have been added, making LJ less user-friendly.

I use the recent posts feature often, but it would be very nice for users if they could make that an opt-in feature, as I have several friends who also dislike that their posts wind up all over the site.

What are the main reasons you use LiveJournal?

I use LJ to keep up with friends, to write and post fanfic, and to interact with a variety of people throughout the world on a daily basis.

What are the things you love best about us?

You're actually very community friendly - each small interest group can gather, converse, discourse and add information that can easily be disseminated between others and move throughout a variety of places. Adding friends is easy, and so is eliminating friends from your group, which can come in handy, now and again.

What are the features you like most?

I love how easy it is to comment on what friends are posting, to make my own daily posts, and to message people for more private interchange.

What makes LiveJournal special to you?Through LJ I have made friends in wide corners of the world whom I would have never met in any other type of forum. It's really quite phenomenal. I've been active on internet chatboards, etc since 1996, but LJ has a special quality that just hasn't been matched by others ( ... )

What s/he said. I couldn't have put it better.

Thank you for verbalizing it for me, engarian.

I love the communities that are left: It's one account for about five different interests here, I need not keep making accounts on forums and then forget to visit.

That's honestly about it.

A personal blog/diary for my real-life friends and long-time LJ friends to see.

I love that you can have posts with real content (unlike facebook), and I never have to feel like I'm putting on a mask. LJ is a smaller closer audience, not a 'friend the acquaintence you met once' group.

I've had a journal for over ten years and am very loyal, and have many many fond memories of livejournal.

This more or less sums up my reasons for keeping LJ in my constellation if sites: long-form entries, friends here, more intimate feel helped along by good, granular reading groups. I wish the mobile version of the friends page and entry page were a bit more configurable, or that the non-mobile themes were a tad more mobile-friendly, but basically I would say I like the service as it is and improvements could probably focus on accessibility on a variety of devices and digging up and organizing the treasured memories that have been accumulating in long-term users' accounts.

This is basically my view as well.
