Writer's Block!

Dec 24, 2014 08:39

Hello again!

As many of you have likely already seen, we brought back the Writer's Block feature last week! We're so excited to finally get this great feature reinstated. :)

If you're using the redesigned version of the LiveJournal site, you can see the new WB module on the homepage or you can add it as a widget right onto your Friends Feed page ( Read more... )

astronwet and I already discussed the addition of a link to the regular post creation page (for icon selection, tags, etc), but I'd like to ask, again, for the comments to default to the journal's settings.

Having to remember to go in and switch the post from 'no email' to default is aggravating.

Also.. can the 'word bubble' be resized to fit in-line with the body? So that it's not being shoved down under the icon?

Thanks!

Thanks for posting this! I didn't realize changing it was an option and had been resigned to not getting emails.

But yes, fixing it to be the journal default already would be nice, lj.

No problem :)

I only noticed it because I hadn't received any notifications (and my roommate is usually pretty consistent with a reply of -anything-) so I checked the post and had a comment.

It took a minute to figure out why I hadn't received one, because I hadn't even noticed the dropdown when editing the post earlier that morning.

I'm very glad to see wrtiersblock back! I like the feature and it seems to work for me. I just have one usability concern:

I'm using the redesigned feed and usually on the widget to answer the question, but I'd like to see more wysiwyg html editing in that view. Now it's just a very minimal textbox and first I wasn't sure if I can insert html in it, or if it's more like the visual editor. I managed to at least insert images using html, so I guess I can use other codes too, like lj cuts? My answers tend to be longish and I'd definitely like to have all images behind cuts, so it would be great to have at least these things as wysiwyg buttons for the textarea, or at least some small note somewhere that it's possible to insert html.

It's on my list to request that a "Full entry options" link be added to the Reply module for WB, so that you can click that and be taken to the full/regular entry creation editor -- the WB coding would just be loaded already and then you could adjust whatever other settings/formatting/lj-cutting that you wanted for the entry.

I did run into a bug. When I respond and have it post to my journal something goes wrong that the post is now below my sidebar in the post. View it: http://sireesanwar.livejournal.com/888739.html

Widget background needs it own color selection fiddlingfrog December 24 2014, 19:42:13 UTC
I mentioned this on the news post, but it bears repeating - the Writer's Block widget on the /feed page is using the border color for the background of the question bubble, which with my chosen color scheme ends up almost unreadable. It'd be great if this could be it's own color selection. Even better if this color selection also applied to the "Show 5 More" buttons for the Twitter and Tumblr widgets.

I agree. I don't know many people that pick a border color with thoughts of how it will look as a text background.

On a somewhat related note, I'm getting used to the feed view and often don't bother to switch over to my old friends page, but there is one thing that keeps me from fully committing to the new look: lack of friends colors. I have a CSS hack I did with stylish to change the post subject to use foreground and background colors based on who posted, but it's rather fugly. If the post subject container element was tagged with the username of the poster I could make my feed prettier and switch over without regret.
