LJFriends Reader for Yahoo Widget Engine

Update #2Sometime near this last weekend, LiveJournal changed the format of their Mobile version of the friends page -- which I based the parsing for this wonderful widget on -- as a result you may have been experiencing a bit of strangeness... particularly when it comes to the label defining who made the post. Well, that problem has been fixed ( Read more... )

semagic also works for this... though i believe you have to have a paid account for it to work.

It's supposed to work, in theory LJ doesn't send notifications when only comments change... but in practice it does seem to do so. This is not a client-specific issue.

Someone commented that you should make it work for Deadjournal. A preference where you can select or enter a URL for a site running LJ's codebase should make it work for all the clones.

Yahoo Widgets, windows programming in Javascript. Loving it myself.

I can look into this, but it seems that Deadjournal uses different URL formatting for their communities (at a quick glance) and so it would not be as simple as entering a URL.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I love you. Semagic is such a pain in the butt with it always telling me there are updates on my fpage when there really aren't any save for new comments.

Thanks so much for this. :-)

I have downloaded it, and I like it! V. cool. Well done.

Is there a way to set it to monitor one of your filters for your friends pages other than the default?

unfortunately, no. To hack around the lack of an RSS feeds page for the friends page, I use the mobile LJ section, which is very concise and consistant across all users. Unfortunately it also does not have filtering options.

that was my first thought on the subject when I realized that there was not an RSS feed for the friends page. But I thought it would be slow (and quite harmful to livejounral.com's bandwidth) to query every friend, since I have some friends who have over 200 friends. That's a lot of page requests.
