Thanx for such a great program. Backing up is essential, as I just understood after wiping one entry by mistake.

P.S.

Aslo doesn't work with cyrillic folders on the harddrive.

have they figured out a way to link the comments to the entry they came from?

At the moment I don't think you can do it with ljbackup, because it doesn't appear to have an option to export the real itemid for the entries in the XML or CSV (the itemid in the HTML might work, but I note that it appears to be an incremental count, not the internal itemid lj uses for entries, so deleted entries may break the comment mapping unless orona_red has accounted for that). Of course, orona_red might be able to do it internally.

However, assuming you have an XML file containing the comments including the comment jitemid (the format produced by ljbackup is good for this), and another XML file (or files) containing your entries including the real entry itemid (I use ljpms.pl from here), then you take the comment jitemid and look for a journal entry such that

(comment.jitemid * 256) <= entry.itemid <= ((comment.jitemid * 256) + 255)

That is, apparently (although I'm still in the process of writing code to confirm it ¬¬) guaranteed to result in a mapping to a single entry in a journal. See this comment and the following ones for more ( ... )
