- How do I join ljsecret?
Only moderators may join ljsecret. You may friend the community by clicking here. Under no circumstances should you go to a moderator's personal journal and ask to be added to ljsecret.
- How do I submit a secret?
There is a submission post once every two weeks on a week day and on a Saturday. When you see the submission post, please leave a comment with the direct link to your secret. If you are unsure about when the next submission post will be, check the bottom of secret posts. At the bottom of each secret post it will say what time the next submission posts will be at. If you are having trouble figuring out the time difference you can look at this post.
- Where is the submission post?
The submission post is posted in ljsecret on a weekday and then a Saturday. The time it will be posted at the bottom of every secret posts. After the submission post is full it will close and you will not be able to see it.
- Why can't I submit music secrets in ljsecret since musicsecret closed?
The members of ljsecret voted a long time ago to not allow music secrets to be posted in ljsecret anymore. A separate community was made because a few mods wished to do so. The moderators feel that just because musicsecret is closed does not mean we should allow music secrets in ljsecret again.
- Will you make a separate community for Harry Potter/Eating Disorder/Etc secrets?
We will not make a separate community for any specific category of secrets.
- How do I know if my secret is the right size?
No secrets above 800px in width and/or above 600px in height will not be posted. To check out how large you can right click on your secret and go to properties and it will say how large your secret is. This is an example of the largest secret we will post.
- What do I do if my secret doesn't show up in a secret post?
Please keep in mind that secrets from the submission post do not start getting posted until the Thursday after the Saturday submission post. Please wait until all the pages from the submission post you submitted your secret to are done being posted. If all the secrets from the submission post you submitted your secret to have been posted, please comment here with a link to your secret so we can look for it.
- What reliable websites do you recommend I upload my secrets to?
We recommend you use TinyPic. You can use ImageShack and Photos.cx but we recommend you avoid those image hosting websites due to many problems with their reliability.
- What type of secrets are not allowed?
WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY FORM OF PORNOGRAPHY USED IN SUBMISSIONS AS OF 12/02/07. We do not consider tasteful and artistic images as pornographic. However, any images of people engaging in sexual acts is considered pornographic and will not be accepted at all.
•WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY PHOTOBUCKET SECRETS SUBMITTED AS OF 02/23/08. If you submit a Photobucket secret, it will be discarded and you will have to upload it to a different image hosting site and resubmit it.
•All secrets must stay either at or under 800x600 pixels (width and height, respectively) in consideration for our watchers who use dial-up connection to the internet.
•Shout-outs (i.e. "hollywood, you are awesome, girlfriend!") are not allowed under any circumstances.
•E-mailed secrets will not be posted. The only method allowed is commenting on a Submissions Post, which opens once every two weeks at a different time. You can locate the time the submission post will be open by looking at the bottom of every secret post. Not sure about comparing time zones? Read this.
•Music/artist/band/concert-related secrets are not allowed. All apologies, but please find other outlets to divulge your superfluous love for a band and/or singer. (If you use lyrics in your secret, that is okay, as long as the artist is not mentioned.)
•"Trend secrets" (such as the "prove you're human" thing) are not allowed as of 04/23/07.
•Secrets about the submission post or about making secrets in Microsoft Paint are not allowed.
•Secrets with an identifiable signature are not allowed.
•You cannot type your secret in a LiveJournal comment box and submit it. All secrets must be submitted as an image and uploaded to an image hosting website in order for them to be posted.
•Fandom secrets are no longer allowed. A secret will be considered a fandom secret if it relates more to the fandom than the secret poster.

- What link should I use when posting a secret?
You should use the direct link to the image. Please check before posting to make sure you are using the correct link. Before you submit the link, paste it into the address bar of your browser, hit enter and if it takes you to a website with just the image displaying then you are using the correct link. If it takes you to a website with the image, other links, the website logo and other things, you are using the incorrect link. For an example of what this would look like please look here.

- What should I do if I notice trolling in ljsecret?
We have a policy in ljsecret where if there is any trolling going on we all stay silent on the issue. Anyone who is curious about what is going on, has information on who the individuals may be or would like to ask a question about it should leave a comment here to receive a response. This method requires you to either leave your e-mail address (so we can e-mail you a response) or have an LJ user name (with notifications when your comments are replied to or the messaging feature enabled). If you would prefer you can message a moderator or e-mail us. We would like to deprive the trolls of the attention to reduce the amount of spam we receive.
