I feel bad I haven't updated in a long time, but it seems like the world is moving over to Tumblr, and life is just crazy busy. Good, but crazy busy ( Read more... )

This is why I'm glad I'm not on Tumblr anymore. I didn't even know it wasn't okay to like Agent Carter. I was enjoying it. Isn't it set at a secret government agency during segregation? What exactly were people expecting? I don't know what it is about Tumblr. The place seems to distill fandom down to just the most drama-inducing bits. Can't we all just be friendly and like what we like and respect what everyone else likes? I'll stick to LJ and Twitter. And I'll keep enjoying Peggy's awesomeness.

I'm happy to see you got a nice chemistry job! (I'm not around all that often nowadays, lol) I'm glad for you!

They're expecting it to be something it really can't be - trust me the opposite is also true - if the show was loaded with people of color but set during segregation, people would be complaining about historical accuracy.

This happens on Downton Abbey all the time - the family does x,y,and z to save their homosexual butler from being arrested for being a homosexual which is completely anachronistic for the times and everyone complains they're unrealistically liberal. But when one guy tells another that its not cool to screw his unwed cousin without first divorcing his wife, they complain about the sexism.

Thanks! I'm really liking my job :)

And I know, right? I am really enjoying the show on an entertainment level- it's exciting, Peggy is a great character, and I'm engaged. I'm enjoying it on a feminist level, too. And yes, I can see where Hollywood should be hiring POCs for extras or parts that race doesn't make a difference, but considering a lot of times in this show those tend to be hired thugs or alcoholic bums who are convenient witnesses so far, not sure that it would help that much.

But with Tumblr you must self-flagallate for liking whatever you like, because it is somehow Problematic, no matter what. Even if you find a show that has strong female characters and a diverse cast, I'm sure there will be backlash. (How long before Brooklyn Nine Nine gets trashed for not having a trans character?) It's Tumblr. They're like Zuko- they're never happy. :)

I wrote a Hunger Games/BSG fusion once, PLEASE DO THE THING. I APPROVE OF THE THING.

Also, stay on LJ please, because Tumblr is terrible and I hate it. >>>>>>( (The Agent Carter thing I'm only vaguely aware of because it's not reached Twitter, but it's characteristic of the particular type of online activism that makes me maaaaaad.)

Oooh- where is the fusion?? :) I've read two, one of which I enjoyed more than the other, but I've had a hard time finding one that works for me, and I've figured out why. Both canons have characters that are so defined by their settings that it's hard to picture what they'd be like outside of it. But if Panem was a continent on Sagittaron... I can make this work a bit :) At least, I'd like to try. The only thing is I don't think I'll be adding in any HG characters. I thought about it, but I couldn't figure out how they'd be there, and I have to put a few outs on the world, to explain how Dee enlisted and Tom is still running around and not dead. But it should be fun.

And EXACTLY to your point about boycott leads to "look, people won't watch female led shows, cancel em."

I think Panem as a continent is super interesting! :D My BSG one was just a really simple sketch here. (I still need to watch Season 4 ... >>) I ended up doing more of a fusion where the fleet in BSG ended up making their own Games, rather than actually crossing over. I think yours would fall along a similar vein, which is neat.

Man I spent a little time today searching the Agent Carter tag and now I just want to BURN EVERYTHING. I'mma just stay here in my corner. o_O

Idiots who say "boycott Agent Carter so we'll get a diverse cast" don't understand how anything works. All that will happen, if it affects anything at all, is the studio heads who are looking for any reason to axe a show without a SWM protag will go "see, nobody's watching this".

Also I don't see any of these people complaining about the lack of women when an all-male show is racially diverse, so I guess I also get crabby about the one-horse hypocrisy.

People are complaining about diversity in Agent Carter? WTF?! They do realise that it's late-forties NYC. @@

I don't get the pull of Tumblr.

Oh, and OMG YES PLZ to that fic!! *holds out tastey lettuce and carrots for your bunnies*

I guess in terms of extras and out-of-agency parts. Which I can see the point, but at the same time, there haven't been a lot of good other parts, unless you want to be playing hired thug or drunken bum.

I will see what I can do :)

I'm not on Tumblr! And I'd read that fic! I love the idea of Dee killing someone because she seemed so quiet and unassuming in season 1. And I think she has the potential for badassery.

Thanks for this post. I love reading your posts!

The Hershey marathon always seems like fun. Chocolate!

Thanks! :)

That's what I love about Dee- she's quiet and moral, but she's got a steel spine. I think she'd survive.

Hershey is fun- chocolate and amusement park! How much better can it get? :)
