Congratulations to my baby sister, who has secured a flat to move into with the girl friend she won't admit is her girlfriend (you know, they just live together and sleep in the same bed and do everything together and are planning a whole future together...).

Sis is autistic with a slight learning disability and has been unable to parent her child, ( Read more... )

That is good news for her.

Is the plan once they are settled to have her daughter spend time living there or will she continue to live with your parents/you?

Thanks, Tracy. L will remain with my parents for the forseeable future, with the existing arrangement remaining in place. Sis wants to start having her for sleepovers once they are settled, but as things stand she isn't really capable even of that - she does almost no hands on parenting when she is in the house with L (although she thinks she does a lot more than she actually does). Even a one night sleepover would be dodgy at present, so we'll have to see how things go. It'll be easier (in theory) as L grows older and a bit more self sufficient. I can't see that C will ever be able to parent fully, but you never know.

Yes makes very good sense to stick to the current plan until the wee one is a bit older. The person she is moving in with, could they help your sis more or is that not possible?

The girl C is moving in with, K, is the best, most sensible friend C has ever had and has been a very positive influence over the last few years, but she is very young and inexperienced herself, so it remains to be seen how they manage, running a household of their own. They are taking it very seriously though and have been getting themselves ready for the last few months, so fingers crossed.

C has been living with K and her dad for the past couple of years since her crisis three years ago meant she could no longer live full time under my parents' roof with little L. K's dad died very suddenly earlier this year, which is why the girls are now attempting to strike out on their own. They've been technically homeless since his death, spending half the week with my parents and half with K's mum and stepdad (who are both useless and were no support to K at all after the huge trauma of going home one day to find her dad dead on the bathroom floor).

Wow, can't believe it's already been 6 years! Sorry to hear C hasn't been able to be really involved, but I am glad that L has you and your parents to be there for her. *Hug*

But that's great news for C, glad she has found someone special and is taking steps towards independence.

I know, right - the Kid will turn 6 next weekend, it doesn't seem possible!
