on retirement

Well on Thursday I went to see my doctor and told him that I could not stomach going back to work. I got physically sick in the morning just thinking about going into work. The stress and the pressure at work, the poisonous office politics, just became too much and crying at coffee break because I can't take it anymore is not the way to go. So I am ( Read more... )

I hate to hear you had to endure that, but am glad you were able to get credit for the time. I have great admiration for you and your career -- I hope I can be as valuable as you have been.

Thank you for your kind words. I understand why these things happen and as someone said to me ''its all politics". Now I can focus on the future.

I'm sorry this is how things ended, I have watched a few other of my friends and family members go through similar things. My father was forced into early retirement by the government after 30+ years. It's was heart breaking to witness. A friend in his 50s completed suicide after things got that toxic for him at work. I could not believe that after so many years of loyalty and pioneering accomplishments, they first made him go from permanent to contract and then went that step further to make the last months of his contract a living Hell.
I'm definitely under the impression that for someone of my generation, employer loyalty is utter fabrication and the days of careers being built within one place are long gone.

I'm glad you have a supportive doctor. Take good care of yourself, pls.
