Hello there. That was quick. :P I'm not awake enough just now to elaborate fully, but I'm getting a Jekyll feel from a and b. Couldn't even say if it leans toward movies or the comic just now, will get back to this. I'm also reading some Quartermain in the love answers, as well as the power one in how he chose to alienate himself from the world at one time. F & g support both, more Jekyll though. More to come when I think straight.

Just saw Face/Off for the first time this weekend, btw. I still prefer Malkovich, and Con Air if we're talking N. Cage movies. Not that I'm into Cage in any way.

Comics: Possibly because I can't see your username without relating you to the musical, I've got to say Henry Jekyll. ;) Shyness and a tendency to let life pass by, and the comic-time Jekyll seems to be quite the loner (and at that point, who in the hell can blame him?). Preferring spirituality to science may be a bit tricky here, but may also work somewhat; after all, science hasn't exactly done the man well; might look to something else, at this point. He's certainly honest, and so on in the way of adjectives (perhaps more "withdrawn" than "shy," but it's the right idea). He also does try to keep his emotions under control, even if he can't always do so, alas... ANYWHO. There's that, muy bien.

Movie: Henry Jekyll here, as well; in some ways more suitable, in some ways less. Movie Jekyll is a bit more sociable, but his take on love would likely fit yours far better than would comic-man's. And the pain bit, aye? Movie Jekyll could most definitely be described as "shy." Aaaaaaaand so on ( ... )
