Meaningless Linux interestingness
I just noticed something neat in Linux. If you use the --progress flag during an rsync, you get a constant update of the bytes sent, percent complete, transfer speed, and running time. That's not the neat part, although it is neat. If you redirect that to a log file, you get a whooole lot of text and control characters, because basically the ( Read more... ) -

The most wonderful time of the year.
This is my favorite time of the year! Holiday rush is over, the new year is here, it's cold and quiet. Peace. It's so much easier to stop and feel the energy you're creating, instead of being washed over by everyone else's. -

Ah, my favorite time of the year has come. The lead up to the holidays is always a mixed experience. The celebration and lights and happiness are wonderful, but the stress of getting to all the visits, getting all the presents, and dealing with everyone else dealing with all that is kind of a bummer. Last night at ( my ) Donna & Bob's was great. Got to see the family, had great food, took the family picture, which I posted to FB. It's a little poignant that Peg wasn't there to be in this year's picture, but I know she was in all our thoughts, and Bob and I paid some homage to her.

I've been trying to support the existence of, and all y'alls continued interest in, Live Journal by continuing to use it. I have another reason why as well. I have always had the attention span of a hamster. Growing up in the first generation of home computer users and video gamers ( and raised by the first gen of TV viewers ) didn't help any. Coming back from lunch today I was sitting in the van under a tree dropping its leaves. The last few days have been much cooler than I would have expected from recent weather.
