Currently, there are two TV shows I'm making a point to watch: Lost (as I have been for several weeks) and Doctor Who (the new season began this past weekend). Let's talk about both; skip if you don't care, 'cause that's what this whole thing is about.

I was wary of this new season of Doctor Who, largely because I was wary of the casting of MattRead more... )

"The new Doctor's outfit is different for sure. Kind like a dorky Hartnell look."

A lot of people were actually saying Troughton, due to the bow tie and coat. I just think it looks lame, but it seems we have a minimum of two years of it.

"I love character driven work with a decent plot, you like a badass plot with at least solid characters."

That comma-spliced sentence says everything about why we disagree about so many movies and TV shows, I think. Very succinct.

Watch the new episode. It's great.

Your right, more Troughton but without the charm of the cosmic hobo.

As to the succinct sentence, it is of course not as rock-solid as gravity and Republican idiocy, but you understand that. You also said over the years you've grown to like character driven work more, just as I've embraced plot more since 2005. Some of that has been discussing these things with you.

Watched it. Very good, excellent throwback to my favorite episode ever, Flashes Before Your Eyes. However, my favorites so far are Dr. Linus, Ab Aeterno, and Sundown. Anyway, I don't think this was an episode "where something happens" as opposed to the others. Lots has happened this season, but it is more in the slower tradition of the first two seasons, and not the sometimes frantic pace of 3-5. 6 feels more like a return to what I loved about the show back then: character development, survival, and the island as a mysterious battleground ( ... )
