I've been at work for about forty-five minutes now. I wake up at 4:45 to make a forty minute walk to work, but I get off mid-afternoons. This schedule pleases me, even though anyone who knew me five years ago would associate 4:45 am more with when I went to bed than when I woke up. I decided to pass on Comps this semester. I wasn't feeling prepared, which seemed like a good enough reason to me, my father, my adviser, the head of graduate English, and at least two other English faculty.

An issue has crossed my mind recently. I've lightly debated a few people on it, and I seem to be in a minority opinion about it. The issue concerns the voting responsibility of an elected legislator.

• Does a legislator have a responsibility to vote on policy the way he feels his constituency would want him to vote on that issue?

The semester is almost over, and I've gotten most of my work done. My thesis is turned in to my readers, so I can't work on that any more until I hear back from them. One of my readers told me to meet with him the last week of class (next week). The other told me June. I don't actually need to be done with this until the fall, so this is fine ( Read more... )

I gave a fiction reading on campus last night. It seemed to go down pretty well. I read "Last Known," a story from my thesis. It's a comedy, and it got a good many laughs. My parents and Elizabeth were able to come; they enjoyed it, so that was nice. Several of the other speakers, including some of our faculty authors, complemented my story ( Read more... )
