Hi, About a year ago you posted a song by Regina Spektor called 8th floor in the learn_russian community. I saved the post thinking I would return to it and check out some of her music since I liked the song. I have now found her music, thanks to you, but can't find that song! I'm dying to hear the song again. Could you send it to me? Or let me know where I could find it? It would be greatly appreciated. And thanks for turning me on to her in the first place :) s

Hello there!
What a lovely message to receive! I can't believe it was a year ago. After getting the russian transcription of those lyrics, I used to sing them in the shower over and over!
It's so wonderful, because that song really meant a lot to me, at that time it gave me a feeling of giddy freedom, immense optimism.
I'm still a huge Spektor-fan, but I haven't listened to this song in ages. But I'm so glad you've come and reminded me of it. Maybe I can listen and feel free as I did a year ago.
Er, I should probably do some introduction as my LJ bio is a little impressionistic. Although I'm currently living in America I'm actually from Stamford, which is a small market town not far from Cambridge, but actually nearer Peterbourgh. I'm working at the Ohio State University as a postdoc in the chemistry dept. I tend to do more theory than experiment so I spend way too much time with computers. I orginally started writing the LJ thing as just a means of doing a lot of daft jokes that I wouldn't otherwise do without severely trying everyone's patience in real life, but I think it's impossible to avoid a little bit of personal angst creeping in, so there's a bit of that as well.
This is a nice intro, sorry if the mean message on this post put you off, I had a few completely strange people add me a while back. I'm in a village outside Hertford, Hertfordshire if you are familiar with it. I know Cambridge and Peterborough, a friend of mine was very nearly the poet laureate of Peterborough.
I can't say I've been to Ohio, sadly. I haven't actually ever been to America, which annoys me. Is it treating you well?
Anyway a quick thing on me: I'm finishing my MA in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmiths in a few weeks and I'm currently looking for work. I do bring a lot of angst into my journal, but it's usually along the same themes, so once you've read one post, you needn't read any more.
this is sort of random, and i never do this, but i saw your comments in livejournal_uk in the recent post on sex/gender/orientation, and i liked your two cents. i'd like to be friends, as it seems we have a few things in common (queerness, a love for ukulele, etc).
hmm. favorite ukulele tune is a tough one. at the moment i'm really enjoying noah and the whale's "five years time," but that's probably not what you mean. haha. it's just pretty easy to play, which is nice, because i'm still a beginner.

Sorry to go off on a bit of a rant. I guess I'm a little emotionally charged today.
But thank you for reminding me of what that song means. Long May Regina Reign !
