Yes, I had excessive bloating as well, although I don't think it had so much to do with my kidneys as from massive inflammation. No matter. I felt the same unbelievable sense of release that you do. Glad to hear it went so well!

Oh yeah. I'm sort of hoping that also some of the inflammation associated with arthritis will also be improved by this. But that seems a lot to ask when I've already benefited so much.

Oh, and I can definitely expect some let-up in the migraines, too. Whoo-hoo!

I'm barely keeping up with my flist from here in Japan, where we are on vacation/holiday (which is it that you Canadians use?) but I wish you good health. Now we have 2 illnesses in common: kidney stones and hysterectomy; I did mine in reverse order, though. I agree with you - the big H made a definite improvement in my own health, too. Keep on truckin'!

Yeah, I gotta say, given the choice between kidney stone pain (especially at 3-4 episodes a week of kidney stone pain!) and surgical pain, I would take surgery every time. Because what's having your abdomen sliced open and guts rearranged compared to kidney stones? A walk in the park, that's what.

I'm hoping for your Japan travel notes when you get back and get a chance to write them up. No pressure, mind you ... Seriously, hope the trip is going super-well and you guys are having a ball.

It's so wonderful to see friends helping one another. That's what friends are for! I'm glad that you're recovering well. (Oh, and I agree with you about dieting.)

It's true - I was really moved by the level of care and thought that friends near and far put into helping me out. My sister came all the way from Los Angeles to Toronto to nurse me through the first few days at home after the surgery! And I was just overwhelmed with all the sweet and thoughtful emails and calls and cards and gifts and flowers and visits and offers of help and loans of sickbed-appropriate DVDs from so many people. Now that I'm healthier I'm a bit worried that I didn't thank everyone enough, in my narcotic haze ...

And, yeah, you know, I know from experience that any discussion of weight loss in any context is going to make some people feel judged and others feel judgmental, so I was hoping to prevent that as much as possible here. Glad you agree!

So glad that you're recovering so well. Wow, 18 pounds of water!

I've never heard of those pears! I'll have to keep my eyes open for them.
