Fortunately the sandwiches arrived at this complicated moment, and Ed was able to ask (quite calmly) for a bottle of Pouilly-Fumé which (he calculated), would go equally well with his salt-beef on rye, and David’s ultra-enormous steak baguette (well-done) with all the trimmings. White wine and beef wasn’t his idea of correct, but if that’s what David wanted, he supposed he should humour the tipsy, victoriously-fugitive PM ( ... )
