Does anyone know what Gids' religion is? I tried Googling last night but nothing turned up.

Thanks.

Reading that I can guess he is probably a High Church man, but quite how Anglo-Catholic is what I wonder. It was his statement about David Laws that makes me think he could just possibly be ....

What is the likelihood of a pregnant woman party leader becoming PM?

If it was an election year and the Party was ahead in the opinion polls I don't see what exactly would stop her. The Party wouldn't do anything to jeopardise winning the election if they had a popular leader.

Where to actually have the sex? sine_que_non767 June 6 2010, 14:18:02 UTC
Ok, so I keep coming up against this question. Given that having a big gay affair with anyone would spell political death for VIPs like Cameron, Clegg, Osborne, Hague, in fact practically everyone we love to slash, where would they meet to conduct said affair? It's great to read/write them just doing it in the office (yey desk!kink) but over a long period of time it'd be hard on your back ( ... )

There were a lot of Tories who had sex scandals in the last Tory government you might want to look them up. Some stuff here on scandals who you can google http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-384312/Sex-scandal-corridors-power.html The secretary/researchers flat or own flat that they aren't using. Only the very senior members of government have official residencies that they use - chancellor, PM, deputy pm and foreign sec - there may be more but only of that level ( ... )

Thanks for this. I've bookmarked that article for further googling.

I think the problem is that most people seemed to have affairs with people 'lower in status' than them, eg. secretaries, less prominent politicians, journalists. When you're trying to get two really senior people together it feels even more complicated than God and Moses. The only thing that comforts me is that they could spend a lot of time together and no-one would question it.

The CCTV in the HoC & Whitehall, is it 24/7? I presume so?

I love House of Cards! It's my bible for this stuff. Haven't seen Damage though.

I vaguely remember that John Major was accused of having an affair with his cleaning lady when he was PM. He denied it and I think the paper may have had to pay damages.

However some years later Edwina Curry let slip in her biography that she and he had an affair, until his wife told him to stop it or something. So if you can stomach it - check out her biography. I remember everyone being shocked and horrified in equal measure when that came out. I'm not sure if this was when they were both ministers or not.

The CCTV is 24/7 and there are security guards doing patrols as well.

Gids or George? abluestocking June 9 2010, 02:12:13 UTC
So I've been following this thread with interest, and it made me think to ask you all - what are your preferences on Gids vs. George ( ... )

This (left-wing) Right Honourable Anon rages very, very hard when left-wing papers and satire calls Osborne 'Gideon', because it's classist and it's shallow and there's plenty more things about Osborne you can make fun of. That said, I'm totally immune to him being called 'Gids' in nicknamey discussion in this comm - it's just part of the code language we have, like EMil or DMil or BoJo or BALLS or whatever ( ... )

Well, you're safe from me calling him that any more as I've deleted my account and won't be writing any more fic for this meme. Or, indeed, any more RPF.

Calling him that was my way of actually trying to compartmentalise properly. If I hadn't called him that I'd have had to call him "Osborne" which also doesn't work for IRL reasons.

But instead of getting it right, I appear to have got it so so wrong.

(Oh, Captcha, go away. "worker crawling". Doesn't matter how much I crawl, I'll still be Wrong on the Internet, won't I?)

You sound much more bitter about this than you need to be. It's a silly little disagreement about nomenclature. While I think what I said in the previous comment, I do think your own writing comfort level is more important than what's Normally Done in fandom. If something triggers you, it triggers you, and that's the end of it.

It does seem a little strange, though. Is calling him 'Gids' in fic really essential to separating him from the real George Osborne?
