People can piss you off sometimes...

A little while ago I advertised some Man From UNCLE zines for sale on various LJ communities and Yahoo groups. I had a response from someone in the States who said she would like to buy three of the zines, so I packaged them up and trundled off to the Post Office to get a postage price. I wrote and told this person how much the zines plus postage ( Read more... )

Ahhhh... I'm sorry to hear that! There is no wonder you are poised off. I don't understand the second person's no reply. Hmm... Hope someone will turn up to buy those zines....

It is annoying, when all would have taken was a quick one-line message to say they were no longer interested.

That's people for you, I suppose!

Unfortunately, your experience isn't unique. Though it's only happened a few times, it drives me crazy when it does, when you have to email the person several times before you get a response. I've even had it happen on eBay where, at least there, I can do something about it.

Why do people put in an order for something and then just forget about it? Or take so long to respond? I wish I knew. I also wish there was a list somewhere so that sellers could avoid the hassle. Not holding my breath on that one. *g*

One thing, does the UK have a website where you can buy your own postage? The US one allows you to weigh, pay for, and print out postage. I don't know what I'd do without it (well, I know, but it would be a real pain.)

That's the annoying thing! It would take less than a minute to send a one-line email saying "Thanks for asking, but I no longer want the zines." Not much of an effort required, is there?

Yes, you can do that online here. Problem is that my kitchen scales are too small to stand anything zine-sized on, and my bathroom scales aren't very accurate for weighing smallish items! I've never liked to take a chance on weighing things myself in case I underestimate the cost - I'd be mortified if a buyer ended up having to pay excess postal charges!

Do they actually weigh each item that comes through? I bought the scale that the post office sells. It wasn't expensive, and has been really handy, though it only goes up to ten pounds. Over that, I just use our bathroom scale. I've never had a package come back (which is what they would do here.)

If you've prepaid the postage the package will get weighed in transit at some point. If the postage has been underpaid then the recipient will get a card saying that they've got a package to collect and that there's additional postage to pay on it. They'll be charged an admin fee too!

I hope so too!

Luckily I've managed to sell all the Pros zines that I'd decided to dispose of, but the Man From UNCLE ones don't seem to be so popular.

Pros fans obviously have better taste! *g*
