Raidou Kuzunoha Character Sheet: Fanbook ▪
Raidou Kuzunoha Character Wiki page - Although the wiki says that he originally attended high school before becoming Raidou, I will be sticking by the fanbook which states that he has grown up in a village. Fanbook before wiki after all.
Personality: Jouhei has been raised in the Kuzunoha village, an isolated area from the outside world. He has grown up his whole life in it and went under harsh training to become a powerful devil summoner and later the new Raidou Kuzunoha. Being cut off from the outside world, he hasn't really have had any knowledge of what it might be out there. He has only heard wind of small things from the demon companions that he trained with or whatever he was taught, as little as it was. However, it's been never enough to really know what the city would be like-- how big is big? Are there really stores on every corner? Are the streets packed? Are the people there friends with everyone? He's completely clueless. All he has known was how to summon demons, handle a sword, fire a gun, and to protect the capital of Japan, even if he never stepped foot in it.
Not only has Jouhei isolated from the outside world, but also isolated from other humans. Sure, there have been a few instructors, but they have either never stayed for long or have made contact with him outside of training. There have been no other children with him in the Kuzunoha village and mainly demons have roamed it. Thus, he has had no one to really share his feelings or thoughts with anyone, and never made any friends. In the end, he has become a very quiet child. He's not technically anti-social or an awkward person, but he doesn't normally speak until spoken to.
It isn’t until at the age of seventeen that he has finally finished his training and become the fourteenth Raidou Kuzunoha, the youngest devil summoner ever in the four Kuzunoha clans. Finally, Jouhei-- now called Raidou --has left his village and into the capital of Japan which he has been assigned to protect. For once, he can actually attend normal high school and take a look of the city he has known so little of. However, he has known nothing of how to deal or ignore the people in the city. Their harsh words hasn't quite stung him, but these situations have been new to him as a person. He's still quiet, something he has never really grown up from, so he just stands there and listens. He's polite and doesn't shrug the person off when they're speaking to him. He isn't-- back then and now --affected by obnoxious people and those who brag, insult, or scream at him. He doesn't add fuel to the fire by screaming harsh words back, but rather chooses to be silent or say a few words. However, his bluntness is known to no ends with them. It is not only with those kinds of people that his extreme bluntness could be directed to, but also to his friends if he must. ”You being loud and annoying,” so he would say.
Raidou is also shown to be obedient to whenever it is to the Yatagarasu or just normal people like Narumi, his boss of the detective agency and also supervisor of his duties, who makes him clean the office, which he does without much of an argument. It might just because it's easier to go along and make the other person happy, so there's less trouble. Though in some cases, it's because he thinks the order is is deserved, such as when Nagi asks him to praise her for a job well done, he does so with a smile. Of course, he doesn’t understand why everyone laughed and accused Nagi of liking “that kind of stuff”.
One other important thing that makes this Raidou different is that he isn't a typical Kuzunoha. Yes, he does listen to the Yatagarasu without question and he takes his duties very seriously, but his thought process is different. While he does follow orders, there are times when he often doesn't. He knows what ones to obey and disobey, based on how it will affect in defending the Capital, and he acts upon them. If it's for something as silly as defending the title of the Kuzunoha, then he doesn't care and he will not do a foolish task in risking others for it. If it's to protect civilians, then he will give it his all. He doesn't follow the typical Law order in which a person follows the rules so strictly, but he also doesn't follow the typical Chaos order in which a person follows their heart. He's a combination of both, using his own judgment as to what he thinks he should do.
Another part that makes Raidou different is his battle process and how he thinks during them. He doesn't do extensive planning the night before. He tends to make them on based upon his area and while he doesn't charge into battle without a plan, he does normally go into them without one. However, he's smart enough to take on a defensive approach before he can think of something. His plans normally involves something in using the surroundings to his advantage. In which the one time he has gone against an invisible demon, he has shattered countless glass objects. While one might think he's just firing his gun wildly in hopes of getting the demon, he has used these glass shards later to track down the demon and defeat him. The same thing goes with making a whole wooden bridge collapse in order to finally land a blow upon another demon. When in battle, he also doesn't use the mighty strength of his demons to destroy everything, but rather weak demons that will help. He doesn't get the ones that normal devil summoners will use; formal, powerful, and strict. He gets the ones with laid back personalities, acts more like children than demons, but they're loyal and their abilities matter more than strength. He uses these much weaker demons because he knows how to make use of these abilities.
Raidou is the kind of summoner that takes his duties very seriously and will sacrifice many things for it, including to abandon the name he was born with, his self-interest, and personal profit. He chose not to get into any romantic relationships and the same with close friendships, making Raidou lonely at heart. Not to mention that he tends to seem emotionless a lot, only smiling at certain times. The short sentences he replies with doesn’t tend to help as well. It seems to be hard to become friends with him, but that’s how he wants it. He doesn’t want to drag anyone into this whole mess and anyone to impact his duties, even if it must mean he will have to be alone. But he was always alone since training in the village, so he’s fine. For his Kuzunoha duties, he would give up everything.
He has a bit of soft side though. When he was once escorting a princess and she sneaked out, she nearly got killed by demons that hungered after her flesh. Raidou saved her just in time, but Gouto was furious. She was not let outside of her room, but Raidou allowed her to leave only if he was there to protect her. He could be the same for children. He even once sang along with them too, even if it was to gain information, he did enjoy it a bit. Of course, he wouldn’t be admitting that, he had a smile upon his face.
Because Jouhei grew up so isolated and alone for most of his life, he could come off uninterested, linefacing, blunt, and a very boring individual. However, he really is polite and kind, not thinking about himself and protecting others with all his life. He just needs to show it more often.
Strengths:
» Brave: As expected from a Raidou Kuzunoha, he is not suppose to enter the battlefield afraid. He charges into them without fear, no matter what the enemy. They could be ten time his size, they could be deadly with just one strike, they could even be Lucifer himself, but he won’t falter. He will face them head on and risk his life to protect the capital he was assigned to.
» Mature: Raidou is very mature for his age. He doesn’t get swayed by emotions or is selfish. He isn’t bratty or a stuck-up. He acts more like an adult than anything else. He’s calm, focus, and nothing like most other teenagers his age.
» Strategic: Raidou isn’t all about brawn. He’s also about brains! Using his demons or whatever he has on him, he would set up traps and find ways to defeat an enemy. Although it may seem like he is doing something pointless or that he made a bad move, he is actually carrying out his plans. Even in the heat of the battle, he can come up with one, though it is with no guarantee that he would come out of it unscratched.
» Selfless: As a devil summoner, it is only right to not think of oneself. Devil Summoners are suppose to be there to protect the cities and normal citizens, and they must be willing to give up their lives for others. Raidou goes even further to give up his own name and social life for it. He doesn’t take anything for himself nor does he really mind.
» Strong: Even at a young age of eighteen, Raidou has unbelievable strength which is expected of the protector of the capital. They wouldn’t let just any normal summoner take care of the most important area of Japan. He is unmatched in his skills with both the sword and gun, but not only that. His devil summoning skills makes him really a foe to go against, having enough concentration and power to summon two at once. Of course, in Johto he no longer has his demons nor his weapons, but his physical strength is still top notch. He could run for hours and if you ever get into a fist fight with him, you better watch out. This is the protector of the capital of course!
Weaknesses:
» Blunt: Although he does think before he speaks and does consider the other person’s feelings, he isn’t afraid to be blunt. It is normally to males that he’s blunt to and not females, but he will if he must. When someone asks for his opinion, he will make sure not to sugar-coat it, but rather give it his all. Of course, this could definitely be a bad thing for those who don’t want to hear it. It can sting and even if Raidou knows that, he can’t really change it.
» Mature: Because Raidou acts more like thirty-year old instead of a eighteen-year old, he tends to be pretty stuffy. He doesn’t socialize nor does he try to. Of course, Narumi tries to make him act more like his age and get out, but Raidou is serious about his duties as a summoner. He has no time for fun and games! Someone please show him how to party...
» Reckless: Raidou is young and he can be reckless in battle. Of course, he isn’t reckless because he doesn’t think his plans through or that he rushes into situations he shouldn’t be in, but rather that he doesn’t care if he’s injured to carry out his goal. Well, he does care to a certain degree because a summoner can’t protect if he’s dead, but rather that he might take a few cuts here and there just to finish his plan. It does seem reckless, but at least he got the job done.
» Sweets: Even the great protector of the capital cannot over come his sweet tooth. Although he’s much more mature than people his age-- even some adults --he is still a teenager at heart. His favourite food is sweet potato candy with lots of honey. Talk about tooth rotting! However, since becoming the fourteenth Raidou Kuzunoha, he began to invest his money for his weapons and for demons, but if he ever had some spare change-- which was very unlikely due to the financial problems of the Narumi detective agency, but perhaps not in Johto --he would buy himself some sweets.

First Person Sample:
[A video feed starts up as if any of the many going out on this day, but this one comes in from a new frequency-- a newcomer. It’s typical in this world, but for once, it isn’t shaky or starting right up into someone’s face. It’s nice and steady, and focused onto a person that seems straight out of a video game or movie. That’s actually not that far off. But look at what he’s wearing; a cape, a typical Japanese student uniform with the hat, these strange tubes fastened to his hostler that gleam whenever his mantle is opened a bit more. Man, who is he? If anyone ever seen the movie or played the games, this character would seem quite familiar, but dang, what’s with the getup? Does he think he’s Raidou Kuzunoha or something?]
I am Raidou Kuzunoha the fourteenth.
[...Dang...Well, around this Raidou person is not the usual New Bark Town area, but rather what seems to be Route 29. It seems like he’s right in the neck of the forest too. He doesn’t waste any time, does he? No, he doesn’t. Along with him is a Murkrow sits upon his shoulder, looking disinterested at things around him. Raidou himself seems pretty disinterested as well. He’s pretty used to supernatural things, including waking up into new worlds.]
I’m lost right now.
[And when he says lost, he means it as if “I’m in a forest, where the hell am I?” He actually does know, but he needs to act normal. Act like he’s part of this world and no one would suspect it. He’s in the woods right now, so he could just pretend he walked into it being clueless. Normal people don’t believe in world hopping.]
Can someone point out where the nearest shrine is? I need the first streetcar back to the capital.
[The Murkrow turns its head towards Raidou and stares. God, this kid doesn’t give up, does he? Does this place even look like Japan? He was just told by those people back in town this was Johto. It cries at him, taking fight and flying around him. He acts as if he can’t see it. After all, it’s a demon and others cannot see it without having the abilities too, but what are the chances? If he pays attention to it while recording, it will just draw suspicion. Let it crow all it wants even if it’s really loud. It’s amazing how well he can ignore it.]
Thank you.
[He throws the Pokegear back into his bag, after pressing a random button which he assumed was off. Guess not. The feed keeps on recording at an irregular angle. The Murkrow is finally being paid attention to and it crows at him.]
”Hey kid, I keep telling you. This isn’t your Toy-kyo or whatever.
[To others, everything that comes from the Murkrow is just the usual cries. To Raidou however, it comes out in plain words.]
”You’re in Johto now.”
That means nothing to me.
[Is Raidou having a conversation with a Pokemon? Yes...Yes he is... Does he notice that it’s recording him still? No...No he does not.]
”You’re not gonna go back. You’re stuck here with me.”
…...
”Why don’t you grab some food for me while you’re at it, kid?”
Devil summoners do not give into commands of demons.
”Not a demon. How many times do I have to tell ya?”
[Raidou ignores the bird and keeps on walking. The Murkrow takes no offense, deciding that sitting in its trainer’s sling bag seemed like a good idea. It nestles nicely in it, but notices that the Pokegear is still recording. It looks back up at Raidou and crows.]
"By the way, your gear thing is on."
--!!
[Raidou quickly digs into his bag and pulls his Pokegear out. He stares into the camera for a few seconds, almost in disbelief. He beings to press on a few buttons on the device and the feed goes dark. Oh dear...]
Third Person Sample:
One of the many things that Raidou first noticed when he arrived in Johto was that he was not in the capital. That was obvious enough. There was this strange faint music playing in the background and everyone seemed almost robotic. He no longer had Gouto by his side and his weapons were missing. All he had was the clothes on his back and a bag his “mother” handed to him. Another strange point was that he couldn’t call on his demons in his containers. He swore all of them were filled, such as Mokoi in the third one to the left and Gozuki with Mezuki in the far right ones. None of them came out and it seemed like someone went ahead and released them all. Well, alright. He’ll have to start from scratch again. He was used to that. He already had one with him, something that called itself a Murkrow, but it stayed in this strange red and white ball instead of his tubes. Strange, but if that wasn’t strange enough, another detail that stood out to him the most was how the demons here weren’t anything he ever seen before.
Raidou grew up, trained and fought against and with demons for as long as he could know. He probably knew a lot of the demons there were out there already but out of everything he saw here, none of them were familiar. None of them resembled any that he remember nor did they even look terrifying. Well, not like all demons were, but normally they wanted to feed on his MAG. None he came across wanted any. They were all small in size too. He was used to seeing much larger demons in the wild, but he supposed it was just this area. After all, Dark Tsukudo-Cho had demons that only came up to his knees. Still, it was rather strange.
He pushed aside another tree branch and looked around for a path. The dirt trail stopped a while back and it didn’t seem like it continued, but there had to be something around here that could lead him out.
A bush rustled behind him and he quickly turned. His hand immediately went for his sword’s holster, but remembered that he was stripped of his weapons, including his gun. So he just went into an offensive stance. Whatever it was, he could probably take it. He was still strong even without his weapons. He had a mean right hook and if he could not defeat it, fleeing was always a good idea.
Standing his ground, he readied himself for whatever that might come out. Perhaps a Zombie, or maybe a Preta. Those always thought it was fun to sneak up on others. Or maybe it would be an Onmoraki. Could possibly be a Poltergeist around here--
The creature jumped out and he prepared himself.
-- or it maybe it was just a cute Sentret.
… Alright, that was anti-climatic. Heck, it doesn’t even seem to be harmful. It just seemed lost.
Raidou dropped his stance and got down on one knee. He stared at the Sentret that stared right back. The two held down an unoffical staring contest, studying one another. The Sentret blinked. Raidou silently declared himself winner. He probably shouldn’t mention that though. Who knows what kind of type this demon was.
”What are you staring at?”
He gotta choose his answers wisely if he wanted to any chance to get this creature on his side and fight for him. He took a few seconds to think.
“A wise looking demon.”
The Sentret stared in disbelief.
Someone better tell Raidou soon that Pokemon didn’t work the same way as demons before he gets mauled half to death...
