Crema De Chile Poblano - Spicy But With The Heart And Soul Of Old Mexico

[Warning ... this is not a vegetarian recipe!]

Another recipe here - and I think another one of the triumphs of prepared cuisine. There is a store named Deals Only in Bellingham, WA. This is a somewhat funky store run by Russian folk and full of deals - overstocks and out-of-date items - kick-outs from stores - and just plain junk - with an ( Read more... )

This recipe sounds great. I've never heard of Poblano peppers. Where did you end up finding them?

You can find them here and here. We found them at Save On Foods in Westbank, BC on the way to transairn's parent's cabin in Kelowna. I was surprised to find them there. I made the soup - a triple recipe - for Airn's folks and grandfolks. The soup was a bit too spicy for his Dad - but his Mum just scarfed it up! I made it less than about half strength - four peppers - three cans of soup.

How well I remember that soup Bob! It was soooo good when we were dieting on Weight Watchers and afterwards. I remember Deals Only did not have it all the time but how we scarfed it up when they had a lot in stock. I'd like to try your recipe however, finding that soup around these parts would be fruitless I'm sure, although there is a Mexican grocery store in Willmar and next time I am there I'll have to check it out.

You don't actually have to find the Mexican soup ... all you need are the poblano peppers and some Campbell's soup which you can get anywhere. You can also grow poblanos in the veggie garden or on the deck easily.

The can shows corn nibblets in the soup ... this is an option I suppose. Although corn tortillas sound more up my alley ... with butter, honey and cinnamon ... lol

Yummmm, I love tortillas with the honey and cinnamon on them. Remember I used to make them with Brown and Brummel and cinnamon when we did WW, for a treat? I still do that once in a while. I don't grow peppers yet, but have a big pot of basil that is growing like a weed on the back porch....yummmmmm, pesto sauce soon! There's nothing quite like it on al dente angel hair pasta with grated parmesan cheese. (Remember our "pesto summer" thanks to our neighbor Leo in Oakland, when we got so sick of it we never wanted to smell it again?)

dr_nebula started a friending frenzy which threaded me throughsultmhoor and so on. I am a vehement supporter of gay marriage and I applaud your marriage to your partner. I would like to make many friends before I lock my journal to friends only because I want to discuss the circumstances of my strong views of the religious right, still infesting the U.S. with many absurd "outings" of anti-gay marriage senators and congressmen, and my soapboxing support of gay marriage. After you read my profile and my journal, I invite you to friend me back. I promise no spam, trolling, or any of those annoying things that make too many of us lock our journals.

Hey there ... yes ... you seem wonderfully weird enough to be a friend! I'll read thru some of your journal as time permits ... hope you'll enjoy mine ... we may have a lot of common ideas ... but unique differences as well.

Famous quotation:

Immigration officer: "An American father and an English mother during the second world war ... ah, so that means you were born abroad."
Loodje: "No, actually I was born a man ..."

Hahah! Jazeker! Just remember I'm pretty opinionated ... but certainly aren't almost all the Dutch? That's why I love 'em!

Je woont in Nijmegen -- voor me de lekkerste stad in Nederland!

Misschien te pikant?

Joh? Echt? Hoezo dan?

Misschien te pikant?
Welnee, daar word je groot van!

Btw, are you learning Japanese too?
(I looked through your interests, that's why I'm asking.)

Gezellig zo. Ik zei het al tegen je echtgenoot; ik kijk uit naar jullie Nederlandse commentaar!

Nog kijk eens!

I've been studying Dutch for years now on my own ... taken a few courses ... one *very* short one in NL and one in Vancouver ... so I'm dangerous ... but I am still working at it as I find it the most interesting language I've ever studied. Right now I'm trying to learn 2000 more words from a dictionary to get my vocabulary up there a bit. Then I'll go back to a more 'grammar' and 'proper' approach. I find Japanese and Dutch similar the way that verbs can appear at the end of a sentence. But the pronunciation has been the hardest for me. I've spent weeks in NL working on it ... and still have major problems with the dutch diphthong 'ui' ... as for Aaron ... he picked it up right away ... sigh ... but the Canadian raising really allows this easier than my original east coast American English.
