[She returns the smile, though hers seems a bit awkward still, and holds up her book. It turns out to be a physics text. Looks a bit advanced for her apparent age, but this is Luceti; the standards are pretty different.]

[Clark recognizes the title pretty easily, and he doesn't think that much of it. Goodness knows he knows plenty of people around her age who are studying the same sort of stuff... even if most of them aren't quite human.]

Keeping up with your studies even in Luceti? That's certainly admirable.

I'm not so sure I'm qualified. I studied how to report news stories, not how to write sensationalist novels.

[He chuckles.] Then again, here they're one and the same.

[Yes, and they weren't at all where you're from, Clark. Nope, alien dictators seeking to conquer the world and mad scientists creating who-knows-what are just regular everyday occurrences. Yup.]
