So, I didn't get it.  If I can't book a project that's already stacked in my favor, putting in my best efforts, then what's the goddamn point?  It's just one more proof that, as an actor, I'm only good for standing in the background making other people look good, and as a human being, I'm only worth the measly pay I can get sorting other people's ( Read more... )

The only reason they gave is that they asked the other guy first and he accepted. That means I wasn't their first choice anyway. Frankly, it's been so long since something really good happened for me, I've lost hope that things will get better.

ok. You know as well as I that there are so many arbitrary, fiddling things that go into a casting decision. While I get that it's been a string of pain and misery, you're really doing yourself a disservice here.
Vent? oh yes - by all means. But thinking the measure of your worth is solely judged by the parts you play or the jobs you take is a mistake. And not one I'm about to let you make.

I appreciate the attempt at encouragement, but at the end of the day, the only true way to measure anybody is by what they achieve.

Seriously? Because every eulogy I've ever heard devoted more time to what kind of personal impact they hand on everyone's lives, with achievement being much less of a focus.
