Death of a Conservationist Legend

Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, died yesterday after a Sting Ray stabbed him through the heart with the barb on its tail (strangely enough he had not done anything to the sting ray to prompt it).

He will be missed. His enthusiasm and warmth were absolutely darling. I can only hope his two children will grow up to also love animals and not hate them for this.

Also, I think Steve would've been more content (I heard he died instantly) if he knew that after all those years of being around crocodiles and highly venomous snakes, it was a stingray that did him in. It says something for the whole 'crocodiles and snakes can kill you, but they won't NECESSARILY kill you.

Well they are and they aren't, usually strikes from the barb of a stingray aren't fatal, problem was where the barb hit him caused him to go into cardiac arrest. There are all of 17 known deaths from stingrays so it's really kind of a freak accident.
