i saw this program on nova or something like that about all these ways the world could and probably would end.
some of the more unlikely: -black hole sucks the atmosphere off our planet before swallowing us whole -gamma radiation from nearby supernova cooks us all alive
more likely: -giant volcano under the western US erupts and blacks out the sun, effectively poisoning a good lot of the water supply and putting us into a pseudo ice age -nuclear proliferation (duh)
etc. but the best one i thought, was that they tracked the course of this asteroid (a formidable one at that), and on friday the 13th, april 2029, the asteroid will come so close to the earth that it will dip below the orbit of our communications satellites. 7 years later exactly, depending on just how close it got the first time, it will circle around and possibly hit earth. imagine knowing 7 years in advance how the world was going to end. brutal.
