i think this is something society is slowly realizing. i'm really drunk right now, but i'll cite the arcade fire's new hit "we used to wait", in which the band aims to evoke a sense of "remember", which reminds us of the way things used to be. we used to wait for letters. not too long ago, the internet didn't own us. we used to wait for messages and phone calls on land-lines. in the short time our generation has been around, technology has advanced exponentially, and has changed our society in ways we have yet to even fully realize.
i've also thought about the ramifications of having the aggregate of the world's knowledge one click away...what then, is the motivation to learn? why know something off the top of your head when any joe schmoe can give you the same answer, more accurately, in the click of a couple buttons on a handheld device? we are cheapening the value of knowledge. the future holds generations of "who cares" attitudes, and it scares me.
