Because I'm indecisive

Dec 14, 2009 19:49

I don't know what to read next. I'm not sure what I'm in the mood for. The unread pile on my bookshelf includes:
  • Watchmen
  • Inuyasha vol. 1-3
  • Eragon
  • Fast Food Nation
  • The Road
  • Battle Angel Alita
  • Vagabond vol. 4 (I've never read vol. 1-3. Why do I even have this?)
  • A Contract with God
  • The Sea of Trolls
  • Bel Canto
  • The Pilot's Wife
  • The Kite Runner

The only books I've read from your list are The Kite Runner and Reading Lolita in Tehran. The Kite Runner is a nice, easy read (technically speaking, not so much emotionally). I liked it, but it wasn't as amazing as people had made it out to be. Reading Lolita in Tehran was good and very eye-opening, though I didn't always understand the works of literature that were being referenced. I think you would enjoy it more than I did because you are probably more familiar with the books she uses to tell the story. Both books made me very thankful for the freedoms I take for granted.

Reading Lolita in Tehran might be a good choice because I've been feeling like I haven't read any meatier books lately. They both sound good, though.

Have you ever read The Lovely Bones? I had the same feelings about that as you had about The Kite Runner, that it wasn't as amazing as I expected it to be from things I had heard/read others say about it.

I vote Watchmen, Fast Food Nation, or The Color Purple. Only read Neverwhere if you've never seen the TV version.

Oh, I didn't notice Neverwhere on the list. I really liked that one. I'd recommend that one if you're looking for something fun to read. The two I mentioned above are quite serious, really.

Well, with two votes, it looks like I should definitely try Neverwhere. I'll have to see if I'm in more of a fun or serious mood when I go to pick up a new book. But of course, in the meantime, I've gotten a book from the library...
