Thank you thank you! This is a great help.

So these 50mm lenses you talk of are actually made for film cameras but you've put them onto the digital body right? If so I don't quite get how this works in terms of shooting in automatic and manual modes as lenses made specifically for digital can communicate easily between body and lens but with film lenses is there a problem? I'm guessing you just cant shoot automatic?

I think I might just get the digital rebel body with a nice really fast lens. I'm not quite sure about 50mm on the small sensor digitial body though as this turns out to be like 60-70mm (sorry I can't be bothered doing the math but I know it wont be 50mm anymore). So I might look at getting something a bit below 50mm in order for it to be the proper 50mm that I want.
