watching the democratic debate

... missed most of the first half coming home from work, and man, i really hate cnn, but FINALLY, wolf blitzer asked hillary something about her vote to authorize the use of force against iraq, and it's something i've been yelling at the screen for the past like, 10 debates. something along the lines of ( Read more... )

i dunno how dumb 43 is.... he was elected twice; his father, probably one of the most booksmart men involved in Am. politics from the mid 70's on, only managed to be elected once.

besides, look at that quote. that's pure golden genius.

the very example you gave demonstrates that intelligence and winning an election are not the same thing. which directly undermines your assertion that "i dunno, he was elected twice, he can't be that dumb".

i'm sure the man is personable and he probably has some sort of people skills of some sort, but he has zero intellectual curiosity and is pretty ignorant, sometimes willfully so. while i will acknowledge there are multiple dimensions to intelligence, but i submit that there are likely very few in which bush scores high marks. he can't speak, he makes bad decisions for the country, he doesn't know very much, and he's even lost the likeability factor that he had initially because he seemed affable; most americans dislike him now. his party has lost both houses of congress, and generally is in terrible shape, incredibly fractured and divided. so what is he good at, exactly?

democratic nomination. it is the "democratic" party, not the "democrat" party. sorry, but that's such an annoying limbaugh-ism.

I was listening to KFI on my way home last night, so that makes sense...

What's funny is that I looked at it and thought "That doesn't look right.. Oh well."

I'm guilty.

I don't know how many other people feel this way, but honestly, I don't really care who gets the nomination at this point. My gut tells me that it's going to be a Clinton/Obama ticket, and that's not too shabby, you know? It would set up interesting scenarios in 2012 or 2016 for Obama to succeed. Maybe I'm missing some nuances, but fundamentally, aren't Clinton and Obama pretty much on par with each other on the issues?

first of all, i seriously seriously doubt that would happen. i think there's too much bad blood between the campaigns at this point. and i can't really see hillary signing as a vice presidential candidate. there's an interesting discussion on the fix about running mates.

secondly, while i do agree that obama and clinton are very close on issues, i think there is still quite a stark choice between the two for a variety of reasons. they're not interchangeable at all, and i think nominating one versus the other would have pretty different implications. i've been working piecemeal on a post about that very subject, and i hope to finish soon.

I just wish she wouldn't yell during her speeches. Men don't like it when women yell. It freaks them out; reminds them of their mothers. She needs to be calmer. Oh, and no more crying!

Still, she's my first choice-until further notice.

haha, she does sound a little shrill and grating sometimes, but that doesn't bother me too much. mostly it's the fact that she comes off as cold, and condescending.

anyway, like i said to michael, i'm going to be writing an obama vs. hllary post soon, so i look forward to discussing their various merits and flaws!
