Jelly Legs & Roses

I've always heard that Madison was good bike riding town, but wow.  My mom was kind enough to bring me my bicycle on Sunday, which I got in Colorado when I was 13 years old.  That said, it's a decent bike, but I haven't ridden it for at least five years, and even then it was just once or twice, I really haven't ridden it at all since high school ( Read more... )

I always ride my bike...I love riding around here by the lake, it's so nice.

I just wish Nathan had a bike and could ride with me.

Yeah, I'm sorta hoping that Jason gets a bike after a bit. I bet he will if I really like it though.

I wish I could take me bike up there and ride with you...but it doesn't even fit in my car. It's HUGE, I didn't realize how big it was until I tried fitting it in the trunk.

Nathan said he would ride his skateboard alongside me if I ride my bike..LOL. I think I'll tie a rope to my bike and pull him around :p

and I can put a bike rack on your car, too ... I've got one on mine ... goes on really easy and it's removable just as easily. I think mine was around $35 or $40 ... my bike is on it right now, in fact ...

Buy a new helmet. Go to nashbar.com or cambria bicycle outfitters or performancebike.com and buy a new helmet. You trust someone else's used helmet about as much as you trust someone else's used condom. Helmets are cheap and excellent insurance.
cambria helmets
Nashbar helmets
performance bike helmets

I will buy one for you and send it to you if you don't think you can afford the extra $10-20 over the used helmet. I'm completely serious.

If you have any space at work, at the beginning of the week or on one of the non-ride days, bring in a couple changes of clothes and stash them in a drawer or somesuch.

Thanks for the tips... when I bought my bike lock yesterday I looked at helmets, they weren't as expensive as I thought they'd be.

Do you have a recommendation? Nothing fancy, just a ride to work mostly on a bike path helmet.

I can afford it... after Friday. Any other biking tips?

Any helmet you get will be snell/ansi certified, these days -- or there's a new certification that includes both those. Just find something that fits. If the bike people don't show you this, what you want is something that sits on your head tightly enough it doesn't want to move around very much even without the strap, and then adjust the strap tightness so you can just put a finger through the strap ( ... )

how about a rack for your bike? or a basket or something like that instead of a back pack.

I really want a basket on mine, on the back though...not the front. I heard they are pretty cheap, but I don't know how to put them on.

Thanks... I wouldn't mind hitting up some lunch with you that day... but I think I'm gonna go the backpack route.
