I am really, truly excited about this challenge and am planning on using it to finish up a humorous, somewhat cracky WIP that got its germ seven years ago and I've been working on-and-off (mostly off, lately) for the past five years. The piece is currently sitting at ~32,000 words, so I have no concerns on the word limit, but I really need a push to get it finished and I think I might be able to over the course of the next six months.
Because of the length of the fic and the amount of effort I'll need to spend on it--not to mention my other longer piece, which is being very demanding (in a good sort of way), I'm not planning on doing any of the regular GFIC challenges, and apologize in advance. But as a result I plan on throwing myself wholly into this particular challenge, and wouldn't mind betaing or cheerleading a fellow author either.
*grin* I am very glad to see such enthusiasm! And of course, there is the matter of time management. I am sure it might be hard for some to do both the monthlies AND the BB!
Ooh, that sounds rather exciting as one who is both an artist and a writer (with an epic hobbit saga that's over 40k words now). Is it acceptable to continue working on a story we've already started, or will everyone have to start a new novella?
Aha, nevermind, I just saw the rules. Sorry, I got too excited and jumped to comment instead of reading the FAQs first. So I guess I can't use my epic saga since I've already been posting it elsewhere, but I do have some ideas. And even if that doesn't work, I'd still be willing to make art for other people. :)
Oh, it will be great to have artists! Be sure to encourage other artists, too!
And I'm sure you can think up a good story as well!
And while you can't use a previously posted fic here, you may want to keep your eyes open for "Finishathon", which is for that sort of thing. It's run once a year by kerravonsen.
Oh my goodness! I was wishing the other day that a BigBang challenge existed for Tolkien works! You cannot imagine how thrilled I am to see this! I had an idea in mind since last summer and I cannot wait to bring it to life. Thank you for creating this! :)
Just one question on clarification: on the profile it says "Stories and art due in moderator’s queue: weekend of July 15." Is this when the final draft is handed in? Thanks! :)
YAY!! When I found out what a Big Bang was, the first thing I did was go looking for a LotR one, and found...nothing! So naturally we had to make one! *grin*
Yes, the final draft would be turned in at that time. The comm is moderated, so the stories would not show up until that Monday when we unlock them.
Oh, Dreamflower, this is like a dream come true to me! :)
Count me in, as I've a long fic idea percolating in my head already - had a couple for a while now, and they ARE unposted anywhere. :) Might need some help choosing 1 of the 2 or deciding whether to attack both, if that's allowed. (Remember, I don't exactly have the demands on my time most folk do. So this is a part-time or better pursuit for me, not just something I have to squeeze in.)
spn_j2_bigbang requires us to submit rough draft May 1 so I think I'm so interested in joining this one! :D I was talking to Claudia a while ago wishing there'd be a LotR bigbang. :D

And I do have some plot bunnies, so maybe I'll be able to do both (if that's an option?).
And just in case you want to make sure I'm a legit artist, here's my deviantart page.
