MEPS...

Jun 10, 2009 00:07

So Sean is off to take the MEPS tomorrow. HUGE day for him! He'll be taking the ASVAB, the DLAB (for linguistics) and his military physical tomorrow. They shuttle him off to Spokane for two days, put him up in a hotel, and make sure he's fed. It's CRAZY...he's really going to join the Marines! WOW. Here goes nothing!

No way!

Saw your comment on my camp story.

I was a Korean linguist in the Army. So, I've jumped through those DLAB hoops. And eventually, when he gets to DLI (at the Presidio of Monterey), he'll become familiar with the DLPT (Defense Language Proficiency Test). The DLPT is first taken at completion of his language course and annually after that. Depending on his level of proficiency, he could get extra pay per month, which, lemme tell ya, if way important on military pay.

WOWZA! Small world huh?! That's cool to hear about someone who went into linguistics for the military. He's really excited to see where this can lead him. Sounds like it's one of the best jobs you can get with the military, but it also sounds difficult. He's up for the challenge though! =)

Well I just heard from the husband. He got a perfect score on the ASVAB, he passed his physical with flying colors, and they weren't able to fit him in to do the DLAB today...so he has to go back next week. He signed an open contract until he can take the DLAB. So he's officially on his way to becoming a Marine. =)

meps is crazy, but there's always something funny that happens.

when i went three guys failed the piss test and said "but i only smoked a little bit of pot."

one guy said "it tickled" after the physical.

and i was caught singing along to the radio by the girl who takes your urine sample from you.

fun stuff
