You all were fabulous (minus samson) ;). for the MRI thing if you really want/need to get it done earlier and can afford it, consider Montreal. They have privatized pay as you go healthcare and do MRIs for 800 bucks a scan.

In relation to the friends thing, I think it's best you tell them that they aren't quite the kind of person you'd want to have for a friend and see what to do about that. It may be the only way to spare yourself and them trouble down the road. take my word for that *hugs*.
