Not only is there an elephant in the room, but it's a dead elephant. Well, slightly more accurately, it's a dying elephant, and it's probably only a matter of days before it crosses the line into whatever heaven elephants in living rooms go to. I loved this entry! I'm so sorry to hear your aunt is dying when it sounds like you are so close. I have no idea why we approach death and dying like we do, it's awful and stupid. I think you have the right attitude toward the situation and it will help your uncle.

As a past master at avoiding things that frighten me, I'd guess it's probably fear. We don't know what happens after death, and that's frightening.

"That sucks" has its points. In my aunt's case, it sucks and it doesn't; I hate losing her, but at this point, she has stopped eating completely, and is barely responding to anything. I hate losing her, but I also hate seeing her like this.
