Jake, good CD. I have most of NIN stuff I believe (including that one). I'm not a huge fan of "techno-goth" or whatever it is, but Trent Reznor is indeed a great musician. However, I don't feel NIN broke any boundaries or set the bar any higher... then again you could probably argue that against all the bands I previously listed (with the exception of Nirvana). How's the newest NIN album compared to the old stuff anyway?

The new album is like... Pretty Hate Machine kind of. It's built off of lyrics, not the instrumentals. I would say that it is not as good of an album as the previous three (or 4 depending on whether or not you consider Broken to be an album), but it is still rocking, and creative, and I am so glad that I have some music to listen to now...

I have to disagree on the "NIN not breaking any boundaries." It made electronica mainstream outside of just "sugar-popness." It is the conglamoration of electronica and rock and it WAS GOOD, and is still good.

If you are going for "groundbreaking" albums, PHM has to be on your list. If it's just preferences, then I guess your opinion has free reign..

I think I put The Fragile in such high status is that the album put everything else I was listening to TO SHAME. And it still does. It's hard to find an artist that will put that much time into the music and production and will actually come out with something creative and new.

3. Pretty Hate Machine
4. With Teeth
5. Broken

It has some real stand out tracks, but I find some of the heavier-rock, tear-ass tracks to be obnoxious---we'll see.
