Have you ever noticed how much more often we all updated our websites before this whole LJ thang came along? I don't even know how long my site had been down, it had been so long since I went to it

Yes I have, and this is one of the things that's driving me batty lately. The cliques we form here at the expense of the wider costuming world. It's not deliberate or malicious! but it has happened. The ease of integrating lj with photo storage palces has made it easier to write in detail here than for a website.
I'm trying to find a way to better integrate my journal with my site (for links). I've recently started to update again, it's been really hard getting back into that mindset after a month and a bit of non-permanent access.
That is so true! And I blame Katherine, since it was her LJ that got me into posting costume stuff on LJ! ;-) I used to update my costume site all the time, and now it's all on LJ and I try to update when I'm done with a project, but that doesn't even happen all the time! I just updated and it had been since March! :-)
BTW - was that you in the man's 18c suit at Costume College? I saw pics - it looked great!
I use LJ as a cheat-sheet to update my website. I started tagging dress-diary-like entries here, then I clean them up & add pix to port them over to my website. I don't do it in real-time, but then, I've never updated my website very frequently, monthly at best. And having constant LJ updates actually gives me *more* content to mine for my site.
But then, I'm a geek. And I enjoy working on my site more than sewing :-D
I can look at my LJ to get a kind of timeline but I rarely post the kind of construction detail I like ot have on my webpages, so it's of limited use. For the CC outfits, specifically, I was sewing so much on them I hardly posted at all. Except for that quitting freak-out there... :-(
I have to add/agree that the LJ tags actually do make it easy to keep track of stuff by project. So though my website gets updated less, LJ gives me both the community interaction I don't get via a solitary website, and allows me to update my site fairly easily by going back to that tag and porting stuff over... :-)

I've used them for 4 years and they've provided great service and not outages.
And I totally know what you mean by site updates falling by the wayside since LJ.
