“I’m guessing you got your own White Oak, huh?”
I really like this. I like how he understands, on some level, what Blaine is like through what his mother is like. And then he dismisses Blaine's White Oak without a second thought, because he's been there. He's nowhere near as naive as Blaine now. Instead of letting Blaine try to save it, he just knows it's never going to work, and I'd like to think that it's because he's trying to save Blaine from the heartache of pursing something that's doomed to fail - in that misguided way, which makes it so hard for them to understand each other.
Blaine feels his stomach drop, because he knows that no matter how unhappy he can be in the quietest, most anxiety plagued moments, he’s always going to be happier than the man drunkenly calling his son at three a.m., asking if his son knows that he’s loved.

Is it bad that I'm grinning at my screen and going: 'good!'? Because I am. To me, Mr. Anderson has never been a villain. Blaine affectionately recalls their "many attempts at bonding" in canon, even though he goes on to say that he thinks his dad wanted to get his hands dirty. He never said that Mr. Anderson hated that Blaine was gay. He never said that his father insisted that Blaine needed to change. Mr. Anderson might have been really uncomfortable with Blaine's sexuality, sure, but we've only seen Blaine's interpretation of a single event.
He's selfish here. He's an alcoholic. He's estranged from his son, and he doesn't know how to go about making things right. I think that it's good to feel sorry for him, because I'd like to think it means you have hope for reconciliation between the two.
*wibbles* WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD.
This is the product of frantic writing and excellent beta reading. Ignore the man behind the curtain. *Jedi hand-wave*
