This is the third time I'm reading this. THIRD.

And it still scares the hell out of me!!

This is spooky and scary and terrifying and oh so very creepy! The writing is most excellent. You are brilliant at building suspense and keeping that balance of gore and leaving it to the imagination.

I am also loving this idea of Neph/Mina!

If I have a nightmare about trees, Lytton, it's your fault.

Charlie, I want to write more Neph/Mina, I can't help it. I went scouting for prompts that could fit the pairing, but I couldn't find something that triggered the muse. Your dead photographs would probably do the trick, but I am not kidding when I say that if I look at those, I will never sleep again.

BUT I did find a prompt for another non-canon pairing, so I might give that one a whiff. I am so glad that you find this ficlet so scary, and again, many, many thanks for your help! You were right, it was a good call to take the obvious explanation out and leave it unsaid instead. Much better.

OMG YOU SUCK!*

I don't usually read horror, but this isn't "scary" so much as it's "creepy" and "spooky."

Really well done.

*Please note, this is meant in a good, amazing, awesome way. :)

Thank you! Writing spooky things is great fun, as long as I leave all the lights on. ;)

omg, lytton, i am ridiculously behind on commenting for EVERYTHING, but i just had to drop a note and tell you how much i enjoyed this, and how much i wish i wasn't going to sleep in like five minutes. for the first time, i'm totally thanking god i live somewhere where trees are too scared to grow :P

i'm fascinated by the pairing (this started in tyger tyger, and continues to grow and fester...) and even more fascinated by the spooky setting. i can practically hear the violins, you handle the growing unease so well. and the gore! the bony trees! the squishy leaves! AGHHH EW, that detail had to be the worst.

ooh, that just made me think. something about this almost reminds me of that kunzite-monster fic you did a long time ago, and i loved that too, no surprise! so i guess the key to apsara's happiness is to keep building creepy houses/caves/pits of doom and sending people down there to their inevitable bloody deaths?

...........yeah i don't know, but it's clearly working for you :D I LOVE THIS!!!

YES, it is a bit reminiscent of the Kunzite monster fic that I wrote, Charlie pointed that out too! I think it's the idea of sacrifice that connects those two ficlets.

but i just had to drop a note and tell you how much i enjoyed this, and how much i wish i wasn't going to sleep in like five minutes. for the first time, i'm totally thanking god i live somewhere where trees are too scared to grow :P
Apsara, you are adorable! I hope you slept tight in your treeless and innocent environment. ;)

As for the pairing: non-canon pairings are my not so secret kink, and Minako/Nephrite and Minako/Jadeite especially. I think it's safe to say that I will write more Min/Neph soon because he is so tall and well built and she is so cheeky and I think they would hit it off really well before their relationship turned to shit. Elvis wrote a Venus/Nephrite fic a while ago, have you read it? It's most excellent!
