This is a gorgeous story. I love how clearly drawn Thelin is as a character, and the lovely effect of all the compare and contrast moments. I especially love how good you are here at showing that the characters that aren't human, well, aren't human, and using the interesting moments of the different cultures without ending up with a colonial-style "humans do it best" vibe.
Also, the interaction between all the boys! And Jim trying to be inclusive. Lovely job.
I think realizing just how different humans would be to Thelin than to Spock helped. I think that was around the time when I realized that I should not be using binary pronouns for Andorians when writing from Thelin's point of view--but that full internal focalization would just be a complete nightmare for me and my human readers.
