Yes, one cat. He was treated with Advantage AFTER I found out we had fleas. I thought it was still to early to start his treatment :(

My understanding though, is that the Advantage should kill any fleas on him and kill any future fleas that come into contact with him.

yeah, basically now that he has the advantage he is a walking flea killer too. between that and the bombs you will clear out pretty quickly

Flea bombs have never worked for me. Borax will, but be careful to NOT LET YOUR CAT IN THE HOUSE when you have it on the carpet (its toxic to them).

Shit. I was hoping to sprinkle it around the yard too (i read that online) but it's probably not a good idea. He probably eats the grass.

"he estimated lethal dose (ingested) for adults is 15-20 grams; less than 5 grams can kill a child or pet. For this reason, borax should not be used around food. More commonly, borax is associated with skin, eye, or respiratory irritation. It is also important to point out that exposure to borax may impair fertility or cause damage to an unborn child."

Just plain table salt (lots of it... think giant bag from costco) also works.

Gah. I don't envy you. I have swell-like-I've-been-poisoned reactions to flea bites. Not pretty.

yuck!

so should i vaccum up the table salt? verybadlady found this "he estimated lethal dose (ingested) for adults is 15-20 grams; less than 5 grams can kill a child or pet. For this reason, borax should not be used around food. More commonly, borax is associated with skin, eye, or respiratory irritation. I'm thinking I shouldn't use the borax at all now.....

Yeah, that's what I would do. Broadcast the salt thick and leave it for two weeks, then vacuum. Repeat. The fleas have a two week life cycle, but the eggs can live longer. The act of vacuuming triggers them to hatch, so the thing is to kill them with the salt, vacuum them up (which triggers hatching), kill them with salt again, vacuum them up, etc.

Did you use a raid bomb? The ones in the pet store or pet aisle never worked for us. BLAH! I hate fleas.

This is horribly toxic, but my mom told me when I was a kid they took the cat out of the house and put moth balls ALL OVER the house and then closed up the whole place, ran out, and left for like 16 hours one day. Then my dad ran in and opened all the windows and grabbed the moth balls and they let it air out for a few hours and then came back and vacuumed and whatnot. moth balls kill ALL.
