oh wow. i didn't know your ex was arab. i thought, fully until the end of your post, that he was an american because you know, there are americans that felt/feel the same way.
He was born in Morocco and lived there until he was 10. Then he lived in Montreal until he was 16. I was 19 and he was this exotic, free thinker. LOL. I think you've read the posts that really go into the divorce and 9/11 was just the catalist. There were way more fucked up issues and really, those are the things I still stereotype.
i dated a guy from yemen, years and years ago. 98, maybe? and honestly, as racist as it sounds, i'm glad i wasn't involved with him very long and was nowhere near him after 9/11. he never struck me as a fundamentalist (and i do think that the bush administration was more involved than we'll ever know, therefore to blame it all on middle easterners is ridiculous) but he did live in a house with nothing but other arabs and there were a few red flags about him. it was probably more a difference in our cultures but it was enough to make me overlook to he loads of money he had.
and yeah, i'm sure i've read about your divorce, i just forgot or never pieced together the fact that he was arab.
I'm sure I never mentioned it. I loved his culture, (his mom is amazing) and I certainly don't fall into the proud to be an american sect. But all the men in his family were batshit crazy. Very possessive and controling. Total fucking assholes.
OK, now I feel silly. All this time, I had assumed "Chahd" was some derogatory take on "Chad", like he was some snooty white guy, or maybe it was ironic because he was some poor white guy that was obsessed with getting rich and joining a country club where people would say, "Oh, Chahd, you're just maahvelous."
Sure did. He was initially in the air force with something to do with ceramic engineering and then through the years started working for DISA and some other government programs and became an expert in whatever it is that he does now and works in the DIA. So, he’s some sort of DIA expert. (Defense Intelligence Agency). I know a part of what he does which has to do with the logistics of soldiers/bases/enemies all over the world… He's done a lot of government work and even though we live here now, he's in D.C. or Norfolk at least twice a month, sometimes more.
I lived in Stafford for the longest time and when we first moved to VA we were in D.C. and Woodbridge. I absolutely love Fredericksburg though.

I know you question the existence of God but, to me, he did you one more solid by bringing you and Mike together.
You're a stronger woman for all you've gone through though.
On a lighter note, did Chahd's mom have to walk out of D.C. that day? I had a bunch of friends that did.
