Boston Dreaming...

We've been thinking about moving since we are done with MN, and Boston has found memories. I saw a really interesting job posting for a Senior techincal positon at a startup in Cambridge so I figured I would send my resume in. When capital_l found out that her job was moving there, I did some salary research for mid-level technical jobs and found out that, even though the cost of living required a 20% pay raise from the DC area, the same jobs paid only 5-10% more. If you're offered 27% more, grab it; or better, use that number as a starting point for negotiations.

As for the housing bust, here are some decent sites:
Housingtracker
and
Housing bubble blog. Though I'm assuming that you'll be renting for a little while, like us.

That the posted range in what I would need for a lateral move. This is all based on Salary though. There is the parking or MTA cost, benefits costs, etc. I won't be moving if I come out short, and I would rather be a little bit better than a lateral move, but if it gets us out of MN, and Claudia can easily get a job.......

You've seen the apartments out here, right? You do know that the average $1800/mo 2-bedroom apartment sucks balls, right?

It all depends lrsmith March 17 2006, 23:43:04 UTC
Well I'm flying out monday for the second round of interviews. Assuming that they are still interested and I am, it depends on what we work out. At the earliest it would be 2 weeks, but there is the housing issue. So it might be in the range of a month. If they don't offer we will hang around MN till we find something somewhere

What about Chicago? It's a nice city, you know. And our weather is better than MN, too.

We've thought about it because we know people there, but Chicago doesn't really have a special place in our memories or hearts, like Boston or CA. I'm also still getting over being stuck in Chicago traffic for 4 hours...... *shudder*
