You know what I've noticed about "extremes" in the US? There is a huge ploy to cover them up - to cover up the ugly side of things, to create a "screen" so to speak. I feel like if people are confronted with what life is like for the working poor they might change their ways and stop supporting that system. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. So maybe in other parts of the world, to that same disparity exists only it's more out in the open.
Anyway, it's so good to see you posting. The art will come. I think all the feeling have to settle in and then it will happen.
Lela, I was thinking about you yesterday, wondering what your life might be like. Don't knock yourself out about not creating right now. Could be that your inner well needed replenishing or that - and more likely given your description - that it is overflowing and you'll need some distance to put everything into perspective. Drink it up while you can. This could fuel you for years to come! I envy the newness your eyes are drinking in! :D
I'm so glad to see you post today. I agree with everyone else's comments, don't worry about the art thing - it will come. You're on a new journey and your art will reflect that in time. But post more, ok? And pictures too please! Lot's of hugs, enjoy your journey!
i can't believe i posted this and then fell off the face of the earth again! i think i'm kind of overwhelmed... there's just so much to take in.
i'm going to try to be better at this. i want to be able to go back and read about how i felt... what i was thinking... feel free to give me a nudge if i'm slacking!
I'm LOVING your Egypt photos! Take/share MORE pics!!! I ADORE your photographs! You have such an AMAZING EYE! :-)
Maybe you could get back into doing art by starting simple...make some art journal entries, using easy mediums like watercolor crayons/colored pencils. I worked in those mediums during my entire trip to Hawaii recently...and found that I could even make artwork on airplanes, in the car, at the beach etc... with those simple tools. I just toted them around in a ziploc bag, tucked away in my purse w/ my journal and pulled them out when the creative mood struck!
thank you so much!!! there is so much to photograph here... so much... i'm still a little hesitant to take photos in some places because i'm not sure about the etiquette, but i'll get there. john told me i should keep a bunch of LE (egyptian pounds) in my pocket and give them to the people in the photos. he's right. most of the people on the street will gladly take a 1 LE for me to take a photo. yes! the ziploc is an excellent idea... i must do that!
