a rare tv related post

I have a great partiality for the work of Antonio Vivaldi and have just watched the most amazing programme about his long association with the Pieta, in Venice.

Intriguingly called 'Vivaldi's Women

I'm now off to indulge in large chunks of baroque music, starting with 'Alla Rustica'. :D

My, er, musical tastes are pretty unsophisticated, unfortunately. Though I did spent my youth playing all sorts of things on the flute and piccolo, so distantly, I can relate.

Ooo--flute and piccolo! There's something about the sound of a flute that I enjoy. I wish I'd learned that instead of violin when I was at school.

Really? But the violin is such a beautiful instrument. For me, it was a choice between the French Horn (which my music teacher played at the time) and the flute. My parents were much more keen on the price of the flute-- about 1/10th as much as the horn. Maybe that's why I've always loved the music of Peter and the Wolf. It features both!

Yay!

I love Vivaldi. Well...almost anything baroque, really, even the architecture and art. I can't tell you why, either, since I find some of it simultaneously wonderful and ghastly tasteless. lol I dunno...but the blend of the fanciful and mathematical deeply appeals to me.
