One can always dream. And windfalls do happen, after all... :)

True. It's the customs duty and Royal Mail fees that add insult to injury, as you know.

What's your value limit regarding customs? I.e. how much can you buy for before it kicks in? Any different if you get gifts?

I'm allowed £18 before import duty kicks in. At the moment, it's not too bad with the dollar at $1.98. I've never received gifts from overseas to know what happens.

When I send items abroad (quilts/hangings etc) I usually mark them as gifts, and put 'NCV' in the value box: no commercial value, because I don't want to land someone with duty at the other end.

I don't think I should make you jealous and mention that there is a very nice quilt shop located one block from my house. That's where I bought the slipper felt. And where I took the quick intro class.

Every once in a while I walk over with Apollo, who waits outside on his leash while I buy thread or a few simple notions. I usually make him wait an extra moment while I drool over Kaffe Fassett books and eye up fabric I have no use for. Fortunately, I have very little skill so buying the fabric would be moot. Now, you, on the other hand...

Ooo--how fabulous! It doesn't make me jealous--I think I'd be in deep doo-doo if I had a quilt shop that close! ;)

Ah--so you're a Kaffe Fassett fan. Interesting. :D

I think I'd be in deep doo-doo if I had a quilt shop that close! Yes, just imagine if I had a plant store in its place!

I can't say I like everything Kaffe Fassett turns out. Some of his patterns can be a bit ghastly at times, but as with Amy Butler, I find myself amazed by his bold use of color. Does that make any sense?

Basically, there are few people who can put so much turmoil together and create some sense of harmony from it all.
