Time seems to stop when you're alone in the desert, waiting for the end of the world. As far as Jack Sparrow knew, the torment of isolation would last until the End of Days. He was in the Locker: a place of sunblind eyes, chapped lips, burnt skin, and dry throat. For days he has survived by drinking from a hidden spring, which has been enough to sustain a body toughened by the hardships of the sea--but not for much longer.

At least this time around there was comfort from the Voices in the journal, although they had to compete with the Other Voices. Sometimes he got them confused. In the heat of the day, the real and imagined voices seemed to swirl together, and he had to shout to hear himself; by night, there was only one voice, and he lay quietly and listened to it.

Damn you Sparrow---you made the mistake again. Poor thinking, Jacky--poor thinking. Trusting fool.

It troubled him to no end. This time there was no debt to satisfy. He'd tried to be good in Luceti. Certainly there was a bit of marauding, but he hadn't set out to hurt anyone. There was plenty of time to consider where all this good behavior had led him in the end. And to regret.
